Rev. Capt. Ryan Althaus Launches New Book
“I am officially exposing my shadow side!!” wrote Presbytery Hunger Advocate Rev. Ryan “Mango” Althaus in a newsletter announcing his debut book, launched Feb. 9. From Emaciated to Emancipated: The Story of a Skinny Mango is Ryan’s reflection on “the dark side of my lifelong eating disorder battle.” Ryan writes that he decided to write about his trauma in the hopes that his “past and present struggles might help us all scribe a healthier future story.”

Rev. Althaus continues his work to de-stigmatize mental illness and support mental health in the county of Santa Cruz, CA. Copies of his book will be available at the Downtown Community Room of the Santa Cruz Public Libary at an event he’s organizing in recognition of National Mental Health Awareness Week, “Overcoming Eating Disorders: An Evening of Empowerment, Education, and Healing.” The event runs from 4pm to 7pm; it is free and open to the public.
