The title of Tod Bolsinger’s bestseller “Canoing the Mountains” refers to the point along Lewis & Clark’s journey where they encountered the Rocky Mountains instead of a river they were expecting to cruise to the Pacific. Their ability to adapt to unexpected conditions that were impossible to anticipate was crucial to their success.
